A Blend of Various Tidbits

Lately there has been various happenings on my journey and so I thought I’d describe several of these happenings, as well as some of my current thoughts regarding coffee and the coffee world.

First, my wife just became a barista at Starbucks in the last couple of weeks. I’ve gotten a lot of mixed feelings about Starbucks (mostly bad from a lot of people) and even though their coffee may be way over roasted (and bad in a lot of cases), they really treat their employees well. One of the really neat employee perks is that she gets a free bag of coffee each week, which helps us save in at least one area on our very, very meager budget. A really neat thing in regards to this is that she said some of her employees were talking about a Chemex! Something I’ve found out from her working there is that you can get coffee made via french press, which is also pretty cool.

Also, I had a really great conversation (with this guy) about coffee in Louisville and just coffee in general. It was really great to hear about the good shops in town and what their strengths and weaknesses are. There is so much I never even knew existed within the coffee world!

I found some great information regarding coffee roasters the other day on Prima Coffee‘s Blog. They did a series of posts highlighting several good roasters. It was really neat to read about the process and Prima Coffee‘s opinions from tasting via different brewing methods.

Also, via Prima Coffee’s Blog, I stumbled upon various videos for people new to the coffee world, with tips and information regarding coffee selection, grinders and brewing methods with equipment such as a Chemex and Cafe Solo (which is pretty slick, might I add). The series of videos is called Coffee 101 and is by Intelligentsia Coffee.

Finally, Captain Kirk posted regarding his coffee journey and was a very insightful read as I think about the journey coffee has me on.

There you have my blended assortment of happenings. Hopefully you were able to findĀ  something within them pleasing to your palate.
